INTRODUCTION

The Longest Journey is a trip through/between two worlds: Stark, a world governed by science and logic, and Arcadia, a world of magic and mystery. You play 18 year old April Ryan. April has the ability to shift between the two worlds, although at the beginning of the game she doesn't know it. The balance between the two lands has been upset by the disappearance of the Guardian of Balance. As April, you must traverse the two worlds to discover the fate of the Guardian and restore the balance.

This game seems to be a level above most adventure games being published nowadays. It is also  pretty non-violent. There are few action sequences and no combat.

Be ready to shift gears as you play this game for it has an excitingly rich story line.  The depth of the two worlds, Stark and Arcadia, are presented to the player through lengthy and absorbing dialogs between April and the characters she meets.  The Longest Journey is not a game to be played quickly.  Play it leisurely and with your full attention otherwise you will surely have less than the full experience.

 

PROLOGUE

1. Move to the far right until the screen scrolls to the view where there is an earth tremor and the egg rolls down onto a branch hanging from the cliff edge.

2. Take the twig from the left side of the tree. Listen to the tree and then talk to it.

3. Take the scale from the nest that’s to the left of the tree.

4. Go right one more screen to the stream. Use the branch and then the scale on the stream to divert water to the tree.

5. Go back one screen to the left until you can see the egg. Talk to the tree then watch the animation that ends the prologue and starts chapter one.

 

PENUMBRA

1. Take the diary and the picture from the nightstand at the end of the bed.

2. Open inventory and look at the diary. Take the timesheet from between the pages.

3. Open the closet and take the toy monkey (Constable Guybrush) from the box on the lower left.

4. Examine the monkey closer and take out the eye.

5. Leave the room and go downstairs. April can’t avoid Zack the Jerk in the hallway so go through the dialogue but don’t promise to go out with him.

6. Once downstairs go to the corkboard. Take the pink note from the upper right-hand corner and read it.

7. Give the note to Fiona who is sitting on the couch and she gives you the ring.

8. Take the matchbook from the coffee table.

9. Leave through the front door and head to the right. Talk to Cortez who is sitting on the bench. He tells April he knows about her nightmares and cautions her to be careful.

10. Continue off the right side of the screen and go to the Bridges. From the Bridges, take the exit leading to the Park.

11. In the Park, take the exit that leads to the Academy.

12. Enter the Academy and you’ll see a trash can with a yellow glove hanging on the lip. Take the glove.

13. Go upstairs and take the Paintbrush and Palette from the shelf on the wall left of the sinks.

14. Use the Paintbrush and Palette on the Canvas on the easel.

15. Soon Emma arrives with a message for April. Talk to Emma and find out that Cortez wants to meet April "where children visualize their dreams."

16. After talking to Emma leave the Academy. Go back through the Park to the Bridges and take the exit to the Café.

17. Notice the "Mystery Door" at the head of the steps left of the Café entrance. Enter the Café and take some candy from the candy jar on the counter.

18. Talk to Charlie, the guy behind the counter.

19. Go left into the next room and talk to Stanley, the guy in red sitting at the bar. Keep asking to get paid until he asks for the timesheet. Give it to him then threaten to quit when he stalls. You need the money for the subway. After he pays you don’t agree to work that night.

20. Go to the juke box and read the poster to the right and discover where to meet Cortez. Take a complimentary ticket from the lower right of the poster. Go in inventory and look at the ticket to find out where the Gallery is.

21. Take some bread from the breadbasket on the table in front of where Emma’s sitting. Talking to Emma and Marcus is optional.

22. Exit the Café and go back to the Bridges then take the exit to the Boarding House.

23. At the entrance of the Boarding House, go left one screen and look at the machine there. At the left top of the screen are two cables (wires) hanging in front of a rusty flanged pipe. Use the Gold ring on the two wires to make a connection.

24. Below the wires is a red light. Below the red light are two yellow things identified as "left screw" and "right screw." Below them are four elongated blue levers. You have to get all the blue levers in the horizontal position. Underneath each of the blue levers is a light.

25. If you click on the left screw one of the lights below a blue lever will turn red. That means that lever is locked. If you then click on the right screw, the other three blue levers turn. By alternatively locking different levers and turning the other three you can eventually get all the blue levers in the horizontal position. It’s not difficult, so mess with it until you get it right. When you are successful, the red light above the left and right screws will turn green and you’ll hear a humming sound.

26. Locate the Valve on the left side of the screen. It’s on top of a gray bottle just left of the round wheel. Turn the Valve and the needle of the Pressure Gauge will drop. Now turn the Wheel and water will drain from the Water Tank left of the gauge. Take the red-handled Clamp from the hose.

27. Enter the Boarding House and go to April’s room. Open the window and look outside. Down below you’ll see a rubber ducky and a clothesline. Click on the clothesline so it falls into the water.

28. Use the bread on the Rubber Ducky and watch the sea gull puncture it.

29. Pull the chain to bring up the clothesline and get it into inventory.

30. Leave the Boarding House and go back to the Café by going to the Bridge and taking the Café exit.

31. On the Café screen you’ll find the Rubber Ducky stuck in a grate in the lower left of the screen. Pick it up, go in inventory and look at it and remove the Band-Aid.

32. Go back to the Bridges and take the exit to the Subway.

33. Once down in the Subway, use the Gene Scanner. Click on the button labeled "Week". Take April’s Cashcard from inventory and click it on the Lens. Exit the Gene Scanner screen and walk onto the platform.

34. Look at the sparks coming from the tracks in the lower left. April discovers there’s a key down there.

35. I’ve seen warnings about a possible bug at this point. It’s not certain that it exists in the English version but to be safe get the key this way. Save the game. Go into inventory and do the following quickly. Blow up the deflated Rubber Ducky by clicking on it then selecting the mouth icon. The Ducky has a hole in it so it immediately begins to deflate. Quickly place the Ducky on the Clamp then the Clamp on the Clothesline. Use this contraption on the Key to get it. The inflated Ducky holds the clamp open, when it deflates the clamp closes on the key. If you are slow and the Ducky deflates before you get the key, you can remove the Ducky from the contraption by clicking on the contraption and then using the hand icon on the Ducky in the close up. Then reassemble the contraption and get the key.

36. Enter the Subway. Directly above April’s head is a subway map. Click on it for an enlarged view then click on the Watertown Bridge picture.

37. Once out of the subway go off the right side of the screen and enter the building. Inside, go to the right until you see Cortez and have a long talk with him.

38. After Cortez leaves go back to the Subway. Click on the picture of East Venice.

39. Exit right and go back to the Bridges then to the Boarding House.

40. Mickey and Fiona are on the sofa. Talk to Fiona then Mickey. They’ll talk you into watching a movie with them during which there’s a strange occurrence that leads to the next chapter.

 

THROUGH THE MIRROR

1. Go downstairs and talk to Fiona. Ask her if she knows the whereabouts of Cortez. She mentions a movie theater somewhere and sends you to ask Zack where it is.

2. Go upstairs and knock on Zack’s door. Zack will tell April about the Mercury Theater but not before she promises to have a date with him.

3. Take the subway to Metro Circle. Exit to the right of the Metro Circle screen through the East Gateway exit.

4. On the next screen take the Down the Street exit, right side of screen.

5. In front of the Mercury Theater is a trashcan at the curb. Push on it to find some green ooze. Dip the candy in it to make Stinky Candy.

6. Talk to the Conspicuous Guy (Cop) leaning against the lamppost. Keep at it until the cop mentions he has a sweet tooth. At the end of the conversation give him the Stinky Candy.

7. After the cop gets chased off by the theater janitor, who mentions the cop lost his hat in the street, go one screen left and retrieve the hat.

8. Return to the Mercury Theater and click on the Fuse Box at the base of the lamppost to get a close up view. Use the Key you retrieved from the subway track in the lock and open the box.

9. Use the Band-Aid on the Work glove then the Work glove on the sparking wire.

10. When the Janitor leaves, follow him into the alley and go toward the back door of the theater.

11. To the left of the door is a stack of four white boxes with a trash bag on top of the stack. Put the Toy Monkey on the boxes and the cop’s hat on the trash bag.

12. Right of the door is a trashcan. Open it then use the matches to start a fire in the can. While Constable Guybrush (Toy Monkey) has the Janitor doing "The Monkey", slip through the door and talk to Cortez.

13. Once in the alley, agree to step through the Shift then click on the Swirling Light.

14. Once in Arcadia keep walking right until you find a Priest to talk to. Keep clicking on the red dialog items until April understands All Tongue.

15. When Tobias, the Priest, leaves you on the temple steps, immediately go back inside and talk to him again. In an extremely long animation he tells April the story of The Balance. When the scene is over, find Tobias again and ask him about Brian Westhouse and keep asking until April discovers his name in Arcadia is the "Rolling Man", because of his bicycle, and that the mapmaker may know where he lives.

16. Exit the Temple and go to the Stalls. Ask the mapmaker about Westhouse. When the delivery boy comes back and is fired, agree to do the deliveries. When you get the delivery list look at it and notice the Rolling Man is marked down for a delivery.

17. First though, April must deliver a map to Captain Nebevay of the White Dragon. Take the Marketplace exit, then the City exit. On the screen showing the entire city, click on the picture of the City Gates.

18. At the City Gates, go right until you find the Docks exit. Go all the way to the end of the docks. There are two exits, Small Pier and Ship. Go to the Ship. There you will find Captain Horatio Nebevay standing on the dock.

19. Talk to Nebevay until April mentions the map she has to deliver. When the Captain identifies himself, you can give him the map. After he takes the map, give him the delivery list to sign. He refuses for "religious" reasons. Keep going through the dialog until you discover music is the key to getting his signature.

20. Go back to the City Gates. To the left of the gates is a stall. Click on it to discover it’s an Instrument Merchant. Talk some more than give the merchant the coin in inventory and April will buy a flute.

21. Go back to the Captain and give him the list again. April plays the flute and the Captain signs.

22. Go to the Small Pier and talk to the Old Sailor mending nets. Keep asking about the chest until he mentions the talking bird then ask about the bird.

23. Go back to the mapmaker and give him the signed list. He gives April a map for the Rolling Man. Don’t worry about the rather confusing directions he gives you.

24. When the mapmaker is done giving directions, go back to the Marketplace and take the City exit. On the large map click on the picture of Westhouse’s Bungalow.

25. Talk to Westhouse, give him the map then the list to sign. Make sure you pick all sentences about Cortez. When April leaves, Westhouse stops her and gives her a broken pocket watch. If you don’t go through the dialogues about Cortez, he won’t offer the watch.

26. Go in inventory and use the Pushpin on the Pocket watch. A shift opens and April goes through.

27. Back in Stark behind the theater, ask Cortez all the questions offered in the dialogue tree. At the end choose "…yes, let’s save the world."

28. Go to the Café, talk to Charlie and learn about the show. Exit to the left and April with sit on the sofa until Emma arrives and starts talking. When the dialogue comes up, choose " …I have to go" to honor your promise to Zack.

 

FRIENDS AND FOES

1. Exit April’s room and get a heap of profane verbal abuse from Zack.

2. Get on the subway and click on the Hope Street picture.

3. Go to the Cathedral and to the Confessionals. Once there, talk to the Priest, Father Raul. Question him until you discover you can find Warren Hughes in Building 87.

4. Exit the Cathedral and find the Building 87 exit on the screen and click on it. Once inside, talk to the Kid (Warren). Agree to do what he asks so he will help you.

5. Leave the building and get on the subway. Click on the picture of Metro West.

6. April is standing near a stoplight. In front of April is a yellow striped robotic roadblock. Behind the roadblock is a container. The container and the roadblock are hard to distinguish as two separate items, but they are. On the post that supports the light is a street sign. Look at the sign. Look at the street sign on the corner behind the roadblock and container. There are two people standing there talking.

7. Use the hand symbol on the roadblock and April gets it to move away from the container. Climb into the container. A trash truck comes a takes away the container.

8. The doors exiting to the interior of the Police station will not open. April has to figure out how to get through. Talk to the Sergeant and find out that nobody gets in the back except police and the doors are inoperable until the service guys fix them.

9. To the right of the Desk Sergeant is a red toolbox against the wall. Look at the toolbox and take the sheet of paper inside.

10. Examine the paper in inventory. Scroll to the far right side of the screen and you will see two service guys dressed in red. Talk to the Portly Fella.

11. Give the form you found to the Portly Fella. Nice try. Go to the Sergeant and ask for form 09042. Give it to the Portly Fella.

12. Defeated once again by the bureaucracy! Go back to the Sergeant and ask for form 09042-A. Give it to the Portly Fella and the workers go to work, sort of.

13. At the bottom center of the screen are two vidphones. Look at the screen of the left vidphone to get the number. Go to the right vidphone and call the left one. While it’s ringing go tell the Portly Fella there’s a call for him. Tell the other worker there’s a call for him. Whey they leave use the hand on the wires dangling from the service box. Try to walk through the doors into the corridor. The Sergeant stops April.

14. Go to the desk and look at the shelves. Ask the Sergeant for the form to report lewd and indecent behavior. While the Sergeant is getting the form, go back and fix the wires again. Go through the doors.

15. Use April’s cashcard on the Bingo! Soda machine and buy a soda.

16. Exit to the left of the screen and enter the locker room. Look at locker number 4 and identify it as belonging to Sergeant Maria Hernandez.

17. Go left and talk to the cop in the stall. When he asks who you are say "Sergeant Hernandez."

18. Use the key Minelli gives you to open locker #1. Take the medicine and look at the receptacle next to it. Look at the lower right corner of the mirror on the door until April identifies it as a loose shard of mirror glass. Take the shard then look at the note hidden behind it. It seems Minelli’s password to the archives is his wife’s birthday. But what date is that?

19. Give Minelli the medicine and talk to him until April gets the date of his wife’s birthday.

20. Click the light switch on the wall next to the stall. When Minelli’s synthetic eye rolls out on the floor, get the Monkey Eye from inventory and click it on the synthetic eye.

21. Leave the locker room and use Minelli’s synthetic eye on the Retinal Scanner that’s located beside the door right of the soda machine. Enter the archive room.

22. In the archive room is a Printer, a Control Panel, and a Computer. Use the hand icon on the computer and April will log in.

23. Search for Warren Hughes. On the first screen look at the number after Erika Hughes’ name. It’s a colonization number. Click on "Edit" and April will change Warren’s rap sheet. Click on "Print" then "Delete".

24. Click on "Main" then search for the colonization number. Print the info.

25. Search for Church of Voltec and look at the name Jacob McAllen.

26. Search for Jacob McAllen. At the first screen click on "Continue". Write down the graphic symbol that appears in the lower right hand corner. You will shortly have to construct it from a list of similar symbol pieces.

27. Click on "Main" then search for anything else you wish then choose log off.

28. Go to the Control Panel and click the hand icon on it. On the strange keyboard, click on the 4 symbols that make up the graphic you just copied. They are buttons 11, 16, 1 and 8. When you’re successful the Control Panel fetches April the Vanguard Folder.

29. Go to the Printer and get the printouts.

30. Go back to the lobby where the Sergeant and workers are. Pick up the screwdriver from the floor in front of the toolbox. Use the exit at the bottom of the screen to leave the police station.

31. In the street, exit left and watch an amusing TV breaking news story about a crashed shuttle. After the reporter leaves click on the exit marked Street, lower left, and go back to Warren in Building 87 (back to subway and click on Hope Street).

32. Give Warren the Computer Printout and he will tell you how to find Burns Flipper at the docks.

33. Go to the Subway and click on the Newport Docks picture. Once there, go up the stairs and right to the Construction Yard.

34. At the yard, go to the garage. Knock on the garage door three times. After a long automatic dialog the door opens and April can go inside and go Into The Pit.

35. Go into inventory and look at the Vanguard Folder. April removes the Vanguard Datacube. Talk to Flipper and after he asks for a "map" of some kind, you can give him the Vanguard Datacube.

36. After the discussion of the datacube talk to Flipper again and ask him to get April a fake ID. Keep after him until he agrees to take a new anti-grav control unit for his chair for the ID.

37. Go back to the entrance to the garage. Right of the door is a paint shaking machine. Look at it to identify it then click the Soda Can on it to shake it up.

38. Go back to the Subway, click on the picture of Metro West, scroll the screen right, and click on the Police Station exit.

39. At the crash site, talk to the Cop on guard until he says the dust from the debris is choking him up. Give him the Soda Can.

40. When the guard leaves, use the Mirror Shard on the Laser Fence. Look at the Blinking Device (anti-grav unit) dangling from the side of the crashed shuttle. Use the hand icon on it to discover it’s screwed on tight. Use the Screwdriver to disconnect it.

41. Go back to Burns Flipper at the Garage and give him the Anti-grav Control Unit. He agrees to get the ID in a few days.

42. Go back to the Subway and click on the Hope Street picture.

43. Go to the Cathedral and in the Confessionals area April will find Cortez talking about her to Father Raul. When Father Raul leaves talk to Cortez.

44. Take another ride on the Subway. Click on the picture of East Venice. Go back to April’s room in the Boarding House and surprise Zack who is hanging around April’s door.

45. Go into April’s room and listen to Emma and Charlie then talk to them. After a short sleep April is awakened and sucked through a Shift in her closet.

 

MONSTERS

1. Enter the Inn, the Journeyman Inn, and go through a dialogue with the Woman, who turns out to be the Innkeeper.

2. When the Innkeeper leaves, a Strange Creature comes to the fire. Talk to him. His name is Abnaxus. When the conversation is over April says she’s tired. Sit in the Comfy Chair.

3. After the Innkeeper wakes April try and leave the Inn. She gives April some clothes. Agree to work off the cost of the clothes by helping clean. April gets some coin she needs later.

4. Leave the Inn and exit To The City. Go back to the mapmaker and give him the delivery list. He gives April another map to deliver.

5. Go to the Cups Handler across from the mapmaker and ask him how to play. Agree to play. Click some coins from inventory on the three cups.

6. When you get a close up view of the cups, go into inventory and take out the Screwdriver. Click it on each cup until one moves. Put the Screwdriver back into inventory and click the hand icon on the cup that moved.

7. The Cups Handler will be upset and after a hassle will give April a calculator.

8. Click the Screwdriver on the Cups Handler and offer to trade him the Screw.., er, magic wand for a prize to be selected in the future.

9. Go to the Temple and talk to Tobias. Go through all the items offered in the dialogue window at the bottom of the screen.

10. Leave the Temple and take the City exit. Click on the picture of the City Green. Knock on the door of the tree house and Abnaxus lets April in. Talk to Abnaxus and ask all the questions you can.

11. Go back to the big map and click on Westhouse’s Bungalow. Go through the entire dialogue with Westhouse and he tells you about the Flying People.

12. Go back to the big map and click on the picture of The Enclave. Once there find the exit marked Into The Enclave and click on it. Notice the Stone Dragon and the Middle Circle. Take the exit marked Downstairs.

13. The Priest you find in the library is named Yerin. Talk to him. When you can click on "I’m looking for some information, but I’m not sure which book to ask for." Next ask about Flying People. Read the book he gives you and find out they live on the island of Alais.

14. Ask for more books then ask for a story called "The Silver Spear of Gorimon." After reading that you can request any more books that come up on the question list if you wish.

15. Go back to the map of the city and go to the City Gates. Click on the picture of The Pier then go to the Small Pier. Ask the old sailor about the island of Alais. Turns out he knows nothing.

16. Go to the Big Boat and ask Captain Nebevay about Alais.

17. Go back and talk to the old sailor again about getting passage on a boat going south. April agrees to get the old sailor’s bird back if he will talk Nebevay into taking her south.

18. Go back to the Cups Handler and exchange the Screwdriver, er, magic wand, for the bird in the cage. Go back to the old sailor and give him the bird, whom April has named Crow.

19. Find Captain Nebevay and go through all the items offered in the dialogue box. April discovers Roper Claxx the Alchemist has captured the wind. Plus Nebevay doesn’t have a navigator. April agrees to rectify both deficiencies if Nebevay will keep his promise and take her to Alais.

20. At the big map of the city click on the picture of The Road North. At the next screen click on Into Forest. At the next map click on Forest.

21. As you try to exit to the right of the next screen, April is joined by the newly liberated Crow. After the talk with Crow, exit to the right.

22. Step into the middle of the next screen and you’ll be joined by a Banda, Ben-Bandu, who is looking for his brother. Talk with him. When the dialogue is finished, April uses the flute to call Crow. She asks him to keep an eye out for Ben-Bandu’s brother.

23. Go a little more right and look at the destroyed bridge.

24. Go back to the previous screen and April will find a sinister Old Woman sitting by the roadside. Agree to help her home. Click the hand icon and April will help the Old Woman up. Talk to her again and tell her to "lead the way."

25. Save the game then follow the Old Woman into her house. When the Old Woman goes to pick berries for the stew look at the pillar to the right of the door. Also notice the funny looking board under the table.

26. Near the right side of the screen is a cabinet. Next to the cabinet is a broom. Pick up the broom and use it on the cabinet and release Ben-Bandu’s brother. You find out the Old Woman is the Gribbler.

27. Pick up the Small Skull from the table and throw it through the circular window. Use the hand icon on Bandu-Uta, Ben-Bandu’s brother, and shove him through the broken window.

28. When the Gribbler returns and discovers April’s work, she starts chasing April. Soon as you can click on the loose plank under the table. The shaky pillar will fall and knock the Gribbler into the fireplace.

29. Exit the Gribbler’s house and April meets Ben-Bandu. When the dialog is done, click on the picture of the Banda Village.

30. After April talks to Ben, talk to the Elder Mole. He invites April to sleep in the Spirit Dig. Talk with Ben again then enter the Spirit Dig located at the rear of the scene.

31. Inside the Spirit Dig, click the hand icon on the bed in the bottom of the screen and select "Go to sleep" and watch the chapter’s closing animation.

 

THERE AND BACK AGAIN

1. Leave the Spirit Dig and April will talk to Ben-Bandu.

2. When Ben-Bandu leaves for the tunnels, talk to the Elder Mole and he gives April the Banda Stone, one of the pieces of the Disk.

3. Go wake up Crow and exit screen right To The Swamp.

4. Cross the bridge, pick some Purple Flowers then go Up The Hill.

5. Go Down The Plains to the Floating Castle.

6. Try to talk to the Statue standing at the base of the Floating Castle.

7. Use the Moisturizing Flower on the Statue. Not good enough.

8. Look at the Bush in the lower right of the screen to identify the Red, Juicy Berries. Try to pick them.

9. In inventory select the Flute and click the Mouth icon to summon Crow. Click on Crow, then the Hand icon then the berries.

10. Use the Berries on the Moisturizing Flower to make Moisturizing Cream. Use the Cream on the Petrified Man (Statue). Talk to the Petrified Man. April discovers she must defeat Clacks, find his study and destroy the Soul Stone to release all the petrified servants. When the Petrified Man lowers the stairs enter the Floating Castle.

11. In the lower right hand screen is a stone Gargoyle with his hand out like he’s begging. Look at it then click some coins on its hand. The Gargoyle revolves and returns with both its hands flaming. Click on each of the flames, then the mouth icon to have April blow out the flames. The Gargoyle revolves back to its original position. Give it more coins. When it revolves this time take the Pepper and Salt from its hands.

12. On the left side of the screen is another Gargoyle holding an hourglass. Turn the hourglass and when the stairs in the middle of the room change position, quickly run up the ramp before it changes back.

13. If April tries to pick up the Parchment on the steps in front of the Mirror, a monster stops her. Open the door up the stairs left of the Mirror and reveal another hourglass. Turn the hourglass and a platform rises in front of the door far left. Quickly run over the platform to the door before the platform descends.

14. Open the door and enter. Follow the path to another door blocked by a Gargoyle. Use the Pepper Shaker on the Gargoyle to open the door and enter.

15. Try to go up the stairs To The Tower and April is confronted by Roper Clacks.

16. Go up the stairs To The Tower.

17. Notice the purple Crystal on the left. On the very top shelf of the bookcase behind the Crystal is a Vial. April can’t reach it right now. Use the hand icon on the curtain right of he bookcase. Open the window and pick up the Green Essence vial on the floor in front of the window.

18. From the bottom shelf of the case to the right of the window get the White Essence.

19. Use the hand icon with the Skull on the table to move the Skull and get the Blue Essence.

20. Click on the Cauldron by the Skull. In the close up get the Yellow Flask which turns out to be the Yellow Essence.

21. Exit the close up and read the Big Book on the stand beside the shelf where April got the White Essence. The page has been torn out leaving only the recipe for the First Spell. Click on the recipe for the first spell. Exit the book and go back to the close up of the Cauldron.

21. Click the White, Green, and Blue Essences on the Cauldron to make an Invisibility Potion. Mix the essences in the stated order or it won’t work.

22. Exit the Cauldron close up and go all the way back to the Labyrinth and stand in front of the Parchment in front of the mirror. Click the Invisibility Potion on April and snatch the Parchment.

23. Go back to the Tower and look at the Big Book again. Use the Torn Page on the book in the close up view.

24. Go back to the Cauldron and mix the following:

25. Exit the Cauldron and have April drink the Light-As-A-Leaf Potion. Now get the Red Essence that’s on the very top of the bookcase behind the Crystal.

26. Go back to the Cauldron and mix the following:

27. Go to the Crystal. Use the Bind Magic Potion on it then the Big Bang Potion. The Crystal is shattered and the captives are released.

28. Use the Flute to call Crow who comes in through the window April opened earlier. Tell him you can use some help then click the Wind Potion on him. Click the hand icon on Crow then click on the open window.

29. After the animation plays, click on the To Marcuria exit in the lower left of the screen. Click on the Pier picture to return to Captain Nebevay’s ship.

30. Go through the dialogue with Nebevay in which the still refuses to sail. Click the Wind Potion on him.

31. Go back through the City Gates and click on the picture of the Journey Man Inn.

32. Go inside the Inn and talk to the Woman standing at the bar. She refuses to talk so click the Map of the Northlands on her.

33. Go through the dialogue with her and tell her about the navigator’s job with Nebevay.

34. Go back to the Temple in the Marketplace and talk to Tobias once again. Keep going left until you find him in the back of the Temple.

35. Go through the entire dialogue during which Tobias gives April the Talisman Of Balance.

36. Go back to the White Dragon and talk to Nebevay and the ship sails.

 

THE CHAOS STORM

1. Look at the Apple Barrel on the right side of the deck. Take out an apple.

2. Click on the Down Below exit just under the Bridge. In the bottom left of the screen is a bag of flour. Take the Axe next to it.

3. In the Flour Sack is a hole. Inside the hole is a Worm. In inventory click on the Hard Candy then the mouth icon to make Sticky Candy. Use the Sticky Candy on the Hole in the Flour Sack. When the Worm comes out and sticks to the candy, pick it up. Click the Worm on the Apple.

4. Go back on deck. Go to the Bridge and give Captain Nebevay the Apple with the worm in it.

5. When Nebevay leaves talk to Tun Luiec, the navigator, who’s at the wheel.

6. Look at the Orb (Compass) next to the wheel. Talk to Tun again and ask about the compass. End by asking if she wants to be relieved at the wheel for awhile.

7. When Tun leaves, use the Talisman of Balance on the Compass.

8. Talk to Tun and tell her you went off course a little.

9. Nebevay returns to the Bridge and an animation runs. Go back to the Bridge and take the Talisman of Balance back. Nebevay catches April in the deception.

10. After the dialogue with Nebevay go back to the Flour Sack down below in the hold. Nebevay has put the Talisman in the Chest to the right of the Sack. Use the Axe on the Chest.

 

A DEEP BLUE MIRROR

1. Go through the dialogue with Crow and tell him to find the closest island.

2. The first time the Head comes up from the water (right of the raft) look at it. When it comes up a second time, look at it again, the next time try to talk to it. When it comes up again touch it.

3. Click on the three sets of drawings on the wall.

4. Click on the wall and April describes it. Click on the wall again then the mouth icon. Click on the wall once again and use the hand icon. April gets a Polyp.

5. Get the Polyp from inventory and click it on April.

6. Use the Pushpin on April to get some blood.

7. Use the exit at the bottom of the screen to leave the Bubble.

8. On the right side of the screen is a Shell. Take the Black Pearl from it.

9. At the left center is some Seaweed. Leave it for now and swim to The City.

10. Inside The City get some Green Stuff from the walls. Return to the Breathing House (Bubble).

11. Use the Blood with the Glowing Green Stuff then use the Black Pearl on that to make the Golden Pearl. Click the Golden Pearl on April. Now she can understand the Mer language.

12. Swim back to The City and take the Crystal (First Crystal) from the wall. Talk to the Merperson and go through all the items offered in the dialogue. Make sure you ask where the ship went down.

13. Right of where you got the Crystal is a Spear leaning against the wall. The Merperson won’t let April take it yet. Instead, click the First Crystal on the Merperson.

14. Leave The City and go to the Seaweed above the Shell where April got the Black Pearl. Click the hand icon to clear away the Seaweed. April finds the Second Crystal.

15. Clear more Seaweed and find a Cave Entrance. Go into the Cave.

16. Pick up the Crystal (Third Crystal) left of the Stone Altar then the Crystal (Fourth Crystal) right of the altar. Look at the Stone Altar.

17. Each of the four crystals have to be placed in the correct slot and oriented in the proper direction. I advise saving the game before continuing.

18. Do the following:

19. Now the inner rings must be rotated to the correct positions. When done successfully, the center of the altar will open and light the cave.

20. Look at the three sets of drawings on the walls then at the Symbol at the left center of the screen.

21. Swim back to The City and go through the entire dialog with the Merperson. April finds out she may be the Waterstiller. Now April can take the Spear, identified as a Harpoon in inventory.

22. Swim to the Breathing House and go past it to the right and go To The Shipwreck.

23. Try to enter the wreck and the Snapjaw prevents it. Click on the Harpoon in inventory then click on the Snapjaw. April kills it. Use the hand icon on the Snapjaw and April takes a tooth. Enter the wreck and get the Talisman back.

24. Swim back to the cave with the Stone Altar and use the Talisman on the Symbol. Look at the Niche that is created then use the hand icon to get the Maerum Stone.

25. Swim back to The City. Click the Snapjaw tooth, the Maerum Stone and the Talisman on the Merperson. Now you must reunite the Merpersons and the Wingdemons. Finally talk to the Merperson and April is taken to Alais.

 

REUNIFICATION

1. Pick up the Rope from the beach.

2. Use the flute to call Crow. Go through the dialogue with him then click the hand icon on him. Click on the Jungle to get him to over fly the island and guide April.

3. When the map comes up, click on the Volcano. Look at the Large Tree behind April.

4. Go back To The Jungle and then click on the picture of the Large Tree.

5. Walk to the center of the screen and watch the animation. Afterwards talk to the Stickmen, Wick, Woody and Willow, and learn about the island’s "telephone" system" and the rumbling noise.

6. Go back to the Jungle then to the Beach and go up the path to the left.

7. There is a Sapling left of a Statue. Use the Rope on the Sapling then climb down into the hole.

8. Look at the Nests then use the Climb Down exit in the lower right of the screen.

9. Look at the Rubble then use the hand icon to get the Stone Key.

10. Look at the Sea and discover the Maerum City. Climb up then click on the Rope to return to the surface.

11. Retrieve the rope and return to the Beach. Go through The Arch on the right.

12. Look at and talk to the Giant Crab. Try to remove the too-small shell.

13. Go to the Cliff at the rear center of the screen. Look at the Fire and then the Water.

14. Go back to the Beach then to the Jungle then to the Volcano.

15. Look at the Big Mouth of the giant face and April climbs inside.

16. Use the Stone Key in the Triangular Keyhole and memorize the symbol on the Wheel above the Key.

17. Turn the Key and notice the symbol on the Wheel above the key changes. Look into the Aperture left of the keyhole. April identifies it as a Telescope. Click on it again and April describes what it’s pointed at. The symbol represents one of the statue "phone booths" scattered around the island. Each time the Key is turned, the Telescope is pointed at a different statue and the corresponding symbol appears on the Wheel. Turn the Key until the original symbol appears on the Wheel and try to remember which symbols relate to what statues.

18. Retrieve the Key and go to the Ruins (Jungle, Beach, path to the left).

19. Look at the Statue Base to get a close up. Insert the Stone Key in the Triangular Hole. Turn the Key:

When you get it right at each of the statues, you’ll hear the chiming sound and the inventory icon at the top of the screen will sparkle when you remove the Stone Key.

20. Retrieve the Key and go to the Cliff. Insert the Key and:

21. Retrieve the Key and go to the Large Tree (Beach, Jungle, Large Tree picture). Insert the Key in the Statue Base and:

22. Retrieve the Key and exit the close up. Click on the Ear, just above April’s head and use the mouth icon to shout a message across the island and wake the Giant.

23. Talk into the Ear again and convince the Giant, Q’Aman, you’re a friend so he’ll disclose his location.

24. Go to the Jungle and click on the Quiet Giant’s Glade picture.

25. Once in the Glade be sure to ask Q’Aman about the Orlowol and tell him about the injured one on the Beach. He’ll go there and help then retire to the Cliff.

26. Follow Q’Aman up the Cliff and talk to him. When he tells you about losing his lure, give him the Candy Wrapper.

27. Go to the Large Tree and climb to the top. Look at the Wooden Crossbow then climb down and talk to the Stickmen about it. They call it a "Lunar cannon" and plan on going to the moon with it. When talk is done, follow them back up the Tree.

28. Talk to Stickman Wick and find out they don’t have a bowstring, er, Propulsion Drive Mechanism.

29. Go all the way back to the Cliff. Pick up the Fish Bones by the fire than the Fishing Rod. Talk to Q’Aman then go back to the Stickmen in the Large Tree top.

30. Give the Fish Line to Wick. When the construction is finished talk to Wick.

31. Use the Fishbone on the Rope then the Rope on the Crossbow.

32. Pull the Lever and the Rope is shot across the gorge. April uses the Rope to cross.

33. Talk to the Alatien on the opposite side of the gap. He refuses to help April.

34. Use the Wind Potion on the Updraft that’s between the two edges of the ledge. Use the Light-As-A-Leaf Potion on April and she will be blown across the chasm.

35. Talk to the Alatien then go into the Tunnel Entrance. Go up the steps To The Castle.

36. Talk to the Alatien Child in the foreground. Scroll the screen to the right and talk to the Young Alatien Woman then try to get into the Castle Tower. The guard tells says you must answer one question from each of the "Four Tales" to be admitted. Ask for some time to prepare.

37. Go back to the guard at the chasm. Tell him the Young Alatien Woman likes him then ask him if he knows one of the Four Tales.

38. Go through the tunnel and ask the old man at the entrance for his story.

39. At the Castle, ask Sa’ena, the child, for her story then the Young Woman for hers.

40. Return to the guard at the Castle Tower and answer the questions.

41. Enter the Castle Tower and talk to the Alatien Teller. The people are reunited, April gets the Alatien Stone and is taken to the Sleeping God.

42. Use the hand icon on the Sand at the base of the Large Rock to find the Small Orifice. Look at it an April calls it an Organic Sensor. Talk into it then enter the Large Orifice at the top of the Rock.

43. Find the Circular Protrusion and touch it. Talk to the Dragon. April will be given the Blue Jewel and taken to the Dark People.

44. Talk to the Cloaked Figure and get the Star Map and the Dark People’s Stone.

 

SHADOWS

1. Try walking to the City from the pier. The Vortex comes, a Shift opens, April jumps through and finds herself in the Cathedral.

2. Talk to Father Raul and ask all the questions in the dialogue window.

3. Leave the Cathedral and go back to East Venice and the Boarding House.

4. At the Boarding house Gordon Halloway will confront you. Go through the dialogue when it’s offered. It doesn’t matter what you say, Emma still gets shot.

5. When that happens April runs upstairs. Try to get into April’s room and a conversation with Zack will happen. Then Zack gets whacked and April runs into her room.

6. Look out the window then jump into the river. Drink the Invisibility Potion and run past the guard at the door of the Boarding House.

7. Go to the Bridges then to the Café. Watch the animation then talk to the Old Woman.

 

REBIRTH

1. Go to the City map and click on The City Green picture.

2. Knock on Abnaxas’ door and enter. He will give April the last stone, the Venar Stone.

3. Go to Westhouse’s Bungalow and talk to him.

4. Go to the Enclave and into the stone gazebo where the Stone Dragon is.

5. The Stones must be placed in the proper hollows on the floor under the Dragon.

Something seems to be stuck.

6. Use the flute and call Crow. Use Crow on the white patch of bird dung on the Dragon’s nose.

7. Go Downstairs and use the Wheel next to the pool. It’s stuck so go up one level and talk to Yerin. Ask all the questions and he’ll unlock the Wheel.

8. Turn the Wheel and get the Stone Disc from the empty pool.

9. Head back to the City and watch the animation.

 

KIN

1. Use the Paintbrush and Palette on the Canvas.

2. Watch the animation and during it April will receive the White Jewel. When the animation ends April is in the Cathedral.

3. Burns Flipper should have the ID ready. Forgotten about him, have you? Leave the Cathedral and take the Subway to the Newport Docks.

4. Go to the Construction Yard and then to the Garage. Talk to Flipper and give him the Star Map.

5. Go to the Subway and head to Metro Circle. Use the Elevators exit at the far left and then the hand icon on the elevator.

6. Once in the mall take the Pizza Box from the trashcan.

7. Look at the Clothing Store to the left then Go Shopping.

8. Find the Shuttle exit and use it.

9. Talk to the cop and he tells April where the MTI Building is.

10. Take the To The Street exit and talk to the Receptionist. Bluff your way in to see Jacob McAllen by posing as a pizza delivery person. When April’s dialogue fails click on "Jerry" with the Pizza Box.

11. When April gets to McAllen’s office use the hand icon on the desk.

12. Go through several dialogues with McAllen and watch the animation.

13. When you regain control of April and the monster attacks look at the Computer then use the hand icon. Exit through the door in the upper left when it opens.

14. Run to the bottom of the screen and watch the animation of the demise of the monster.

15. Talk to Cortez and watch the animation.

16. Go back into the laboratory and look at and use the Computer to recover the Stone Disk.

17. Find your way all the way back to Burns Flipper’s garage and see Flipper. Watch the animation and discover Flipper has betrayed April and has been shot for his perfidy, However, he has kept a copy of the map. The entrance she’s seeking is a point in space near the Morningstar Spaceport. After this revelation Flipper checks out.

18. Take the Subway back to Metro Circle and go up the Elevators again.

19. In the mall find the Tubes exit. Talk to the representative and tell her you want to register to become a colonist.

 

DREAMLAND

1. The door to the Ladie’s Room is locked, so go into the Men’s. However, April won’t go in until you at least try the Ladie’s.

2. Look at the Dispenser on the left wall. Use the Cashcard on it and get some Instant Heat.

3. Move the left trashcan then use a coin on the Grill. Remove the Grill and enter the Passage.

4. Look at the screen in the lower left-hand corner. Click on Service Duct Exit #1.

5. Look at the Security Camera then use the hand icon to pull out the cable.

6. Let the guard get about halfway to April then crawl back into the duct and return to the screen. Click on Service Duct Exit #2.

7. Crawl out of the duct and drop the Instant Heat in the Guard’s coffee cup. Duck back into the passage and return to the screen. Click on Service Duct Exit #2 again.

8. Watch the Guard drink his coffee then leave.

9. Get a MagKey from the coat hanging on the back of a chair.

10. Look at the Security Map on the wall. Select the Cell Block Guard and send him off duty.

11. Look at the Computer behind the coat and get the cell number, 5, of the Guardian.

12. Leave the Security Office by the exit on the right. Go down the Far Corridor.

13. Open the cover of lock 5 and use the MagKey to open the cell and release the Guardian, Adrian.

14. Use the Exit Left and go back to the Security Office.

15. Go to the Security Map again. Order the guard in the Rest Area off-duty.

16. Order the Airlock guard off-duty.

17. Go to the Cell Block and Exit Right.

18. Exit to the Airlock and April will talk to Adrian.

19. Press the Red Button on the panel in the foreground to reveal the Pod.

20. Look at the Pod then at the Panel on the front of it. It needs an oxygen filter.

21. Go back to the Security Office and order the Rest Area guard off-duty.

22. Order the Cargo Bay guard off-duty.

23. Leave the Security Office and find and take the Left Corridor exit that’s just before the Security Camera.

24. Enter the Cargo Bay and look at then use the Computer Terminal on the right wall.

25. Look at all the boxes until you find row L10-9 (back left of room). When you do the icon automatically changes into a hand. Click on the boxes and April gets an Oxygen Brick.

26. Go back to the Security Office and send the Rest Area guard off-duty.

27. Send the Airlock Guard off-duty.

28. Go back to the Airlock and use the Oxygen Brick on the Pod.

29. Talk to Adrian and April tells him about using the Pod. He warns April of the three trials she may have to endure on the way to the tower.

30. Adrian gets in the Pod. April launches it then launches herself.

 

THE LONGEST JOURNEY

1. Look at the trashed Pod then go Into The Desert.

2. After April finds Adrian’s pod, continue toward The Tower.

3. When April is confronted by the Chaos Vortex use the Bind Magic potion on the Talisman and then use the Talisman on the Vortex. When the Vortex is gone click on the Far Side of the Chasm and continue.

4. When April appears on the far side, continue toward The Tower.

5. In the next sequence use the Golden Ring on April’s father as soon as you get the chance. Continue toward The Tower.

6. When you get to the Canyon circling The Tower call up Crow with the flute.

7. Talk to him then use him on the Cone Structure located just below The Tower.

8. When he returns use him on the Canyon.

9. Use him on the Well of Making (also just below The Tower) to bring back some water.

10. Use him on the Canyon again.

11. Walk across the Mist Bridge to the Well Of Making.

12. Use the hand icon on the Well Of Making then use the Stone Disk on the Well.

13. Use the hand icon on the Hand symbol that appears.

14. Watch the long sequence and when you finally gain control, use the Talisman on Gordon.
