I read an announcement that LibreOffice 6.2 had been released. It features a new "NoteBookBar" and some new icon styles along with the usual mix of miscellaneous improvements and bug fixes.
I downloaded the torrent option and pulled the new release. Extracted the downloaded file, read the readme and followed the installation instructions to run from the DEBS folder:
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
It installed perfectly on Linux Mint. I ran it and it looks great.
Unfortunately, I did not uninstall the earlier 6.0 version that is on Linux Mint. So, I had double everything.
Don't want that; just want the new version. So, I could uninstall all LibreOffice versions and reinstall the new one, but wanted to try just uninstalling the old version. Here was the solution that worked for me.
dpkg --get-selections | grep libreoffice
This lists all the installed applications and runs it through grep to filter down to just the items that contain the text "libreoffice". It showed that the names of the applications making up the old version of libreoffice all began with "libreoffice-" and the new ones began "libreoffice6.2".
Changing the command to add the dash, showed me just the applications I wanted to remove.
dpkg --get-selections | grep libreoffice-
Then I used the following commands to uninstall the old LibreOffice and clean up afterwards. This grabs all the applications that begin with libreoffice-.
sudo apt-get remove --purge libreoffice-* sudo apt-get clean sudo apt-get autoremove
I went back to the original bash command
dpkg --get-selections | grep libreoffice libobasis6.2-libreofficekit-data install libreoffice6.2 install libreoffice6.2-base install libreoffice6.2-calc install libreoffice6.2-debian-menus install libreoffice6.2-dict-en install libreoffice6.2-dict-es install libreoffice6.2-dict-fr install libreoffice6.2-draw install libreoffice6.2-en-us install libreoffice6.2-impress install libreoffice6.2-math install libreoffice6.2-ure install libreoffice6.2-writer install
and shows just the 6.2 version files. Checked the menus in Cinnamon and only the 6.2 icons are shown. Launched the applications, everything looks good!
