Markdown File Links

If you use multiple markdown editors or note taking applications to edit markdown files, it is a good idea to use relative file links with creating links to other files.

While some editors get fancy with their linking, having explicit relational links has helped me when moving between Obsidian, VS Code, QOwnNotes, and so on.

Here is an example link that uses relational file linking: Another file

The markdown for that looks like this:

[Another file](../Reading/2011-02-02-triple-homonyms.md)

So this technique works great as long as you're dealing with markdown files.

The Pelican static site generator adds a wrinkle to linking because it takes markdown links and converts them to HTML anchor tags. Instead, you have to use the form:

[Another file]({filename}/Reading/2011-02-02-triple-homonyms.md)
